Sun Peaks Snowboard Club

Sun Peaks snowboard club is a non-for-profit club that is geared to developing snowboard athletes to compete at a provincial series level. If you have strong snowboarding skills and are wanting to progress further in the sport this program with dedicated coaches is for you. The program runs for 18 weeks from end of November through to end of March. Coaches will fine tune your park skills in a positive and safe setting and improve your technique to be a confident provincial competitor.

2022/2023 Registration Information

Before registering please contact the club at spsnowboardclub@gmail.com. You will be contacted by the club ASAP to discuss details of the program, your child's riding level and what training days are suitable. Once that is complete you can proceed with our online registration process.

Mandatory BC Snowboard/Canada Snowboard Licence

As in past years, to be part of the snowboard program your child MUST purchase an athlete's license from BCSBD. If your child intends to compete you will need to purchase an athlete's membership. If not competing the recreation membership. If your child is over 13 years of age you can add the FIS license as well. We have a new registration process this year through SnowReg. The license purchase will need to be completed in this system before it moves you forward with the club registration. This new system is a one stop shop to make life easier.

Competitions

We do not yet have a competition schedule, but there are typically 3 Provincial Series Competitions. There will be no training on the weekends of competitions.

Minimum Requirements

Please note that the Sun Peaks freestyle club has a minimum requirement for our athletes as this is a competitive program. This program is to develop the athletes' Park skills to prepare for competitions in Slopestyle and Big Air. Children must be very comfortable on a board and getting on and off chairlifts independently. Know how to carve heel and toe edge, be comfortable with surface turns, basic box rails and small to medium jumps. If your child is not at that ability yet there are other sports school programs that are available through the resort. We are happy to help you navigate this.

Information about uniforms will be coming out shortly.

Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns. If you know your child is ready for this program please reach out for registration ASAP, as our goal is to get training groups formed as soon as possible. Thank you for your interest in the Sun Peaks Freestyle Club.

Programs and Fees (Snowboard)

This season will be a good one. We are looking forward to seeing what these young athletes accomplish throughout the season as they ride and develop with their groups. Lots of high fives will be flying!!

As the club evolves and grows there are a few changes to our programming.

Please see below-

FRIDAYS-HP Crew (9am-3pm)

Designated for athletes that are working in the Competitive stream at a National Level and beyond. Age 12+ This is as the name says high performance training and focus.

We have 2 crews set up for our developing athletes. Ages 9-12 and ages 13+. Placement in these groups is determined first by age. After assessment by the coach the athlete may be moved into a more appropriate group (up or down). This will be determined by the coach not just on their skill level, but by their behavior, emotional maturity and resilience. The SPFC uses the Long term athletic development model (LTAD) as well as a safe and progressional coaching approach to guide the athletes into the future sport of competitive snowboarding.

SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS (9am-3pm)

Yungblud crew (ages 9-12) - For athletes that are entering into the competitive space of freestyle. Our freestyle coach will be working on their park skills development that will transfer into skills needed in the competitive stream. There is no obligation to enter into the provincial series events but some competitions are encouraged. As contests vary mountain to mountain the coach can help determine which ones are appropriate for the rider.

Flyte Crew (ages 13+) - A faster pace progressional group that will focus more on the competitive aspect of riding. The D.A.V.E principle (difficulty, amplitude, variety and execution) will be used for these riders to focus on tricks and style that will improve their results in contests. Not hitting the big jumps yet, no worries, this is still a progressional process over the course of 15 weeks to get you working at your best ability!

Hey Elle Crew (Girls only 7+ to 18) Sundays only- We are pleased to offer an all girls crew. There is an option for the younger girls (7-8) to participate for the half day only. Age 9+ is full days.

Super Groms (girls or boys) (age 7-8) Sundays only half day 9am-12pm-These young shredders will focus on the foundations needed to improve their riding in and out of the park.

*please note-This is subject to change based on registration.
